Oh, what fun it is to create these adorable forest creatures, knowing that a sweet baby boy will be enjoying it! Quilt designer Elizabeth Hartman makes her Fancy Forest Quilt  in a couple different versions; I chose the smaller baby quilt in blues and it was so rewarding to make. I used Kona solids for the blocks and Essex Yarn Dyed Homespun in taupe for the background and binding.  For backing, I chose one of Jen Kingwell's Winkipop fabrics (which appear to be now out of stock everywhere, so -- whew! -- I'm glad I snagged some of this when I did. This sweet little quilt was given to Our Baby Girl last weekend, so I feel like it's a good time to show it off! I had wanted to make a quilt with the look of transparent overlapping color blocks and while there were kits out there, I wanted to figure it out on my own.  Using the Kona Solids color chart panel given to me by my sister Pam, I chose pastel solids that I thought would work. For the most part, they did. Some of the blocks I'd like to re-do, but don't we always think we can do better next time? My quilt model didn't much appreciate doing an outdoor shot. Notice the snow on the ground? That lime green overlap color is one of my favorites. I love purples for babies! This was a fun quilt to work on and I hated to see it finish - I was wallowing in all these pinks and yellows!  Made of 48 macarons, the blocks were simple to make. The Wonky Stars Quilt is one that I played around with for months before finishing. I love the color orange - in all its shades and iterations - so decided to do this  Missouri Star Quilt Company  quilt pattern with a pop of orange and gold. And don't you just love those neutrals? The sharp lines and angles in this quilt are softened by the quilting: swirls and sparkles! Love that gold! I love all shades of orange, but this deep orange-red next to the beige is just beautiful. A good lap quilt looks great on the back of a couch. The Ombre Carnival Quilt by V and Co  is a beautiful way for a quilter to experience color in all its shades, tones and vibrancy. Each fabric has a variety of personalities that when all mixed up together along with gold confetti on white make for a super fun quilt to put together. This quilt calls for 20 Ombre Bloom fabrics - my favorites being Cayenne, Slate, Indigo and Persimmon. But if you're into pinks or crazy about deep blues and purples, you're gonna love this quilt. Vanessa Christenson does wonderful things with the ombre concept, giving quilters room for much creativity, while still following a pattern. I used a kit for this quilt and I still felt that I had a lot of decisions that were left up to me. A scrappy binding is always fun!
